In May, summer residents of central Russia have a hot season. It is necessary to plant tomatoes, eggplants, peppers and cucumbers in greenhouses. We give advice on what time to plant and how to do it correctly.

When to plant vegetables in greenhouses?

Tomato seedlings are usually planted in polycarbonate greenhouses from May 1 to May 15, under film shelters – from May 20 to May 31. Cucumbers can be sown in glass and film greenhouses in mid-May, under temporary film shelters – at the end of May, writes portal Supersadovnik.

As for peppers, they can be planted in a greenhouse or under a film in mid-May. Eggplant seedlings are planted in polycarbonate greenhouses in mid-May, in film greenhouses – in early June.

How to prepare the soil?

Remove debris from the surface of the soil, dig and loosen it. If possible, renew the soil – remove a layer 12-15 cm thick and replace it with a new one. If it is not possible to update the soil, you need to disinfect it. To do this, make a pink solution of potassium permanganate, heat it to 90 degrees and spill the soil well, informs Antonov Garden.

How to plant seedlings?

Make beds. It can be one bed in the center or two on the sides with a passage of 30-35 cm in order to move freely around the greenhouse and take care of the plants. Plant seedlings, keeping the distance between plants: between tall tomatoes – 55 cm (with a distance between beds of 60-65 cm), between undersized tomatoes – 30 cm (with a distance between beds of 40 cm).

The distance between cucumbers should be 15-20 cm, between eggplants – 35-40 cm and the same between the beds. Between tall peppers, leave 35 cm (with a distance between beds of 40 cm), between undersized peppers – 25 cm (with a distance between beds of 40 cm).
