The Russian and Ukrainian sides said they were unaware of the Vatican’s peace mission. However, there have already been contacts on this issue. This was announced on Wednesday, May 10, by the Secretary of State of the Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

“I believe that it (the mission. – Profile) will continue,” he said. The words of the Secretary of State of the Vatican are quoted by the agency ANSA. Moscow and Kyiv, in the course of contacts, settled the misunderstanding, the cardinal claims. According to him, news regarding the mission is confidential, transmits TASS.

Pope Francis said earlier that the Vatican is carrying out a peaceful mission in order to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. However, he did not elaborate on her. “I am ready to do everything that needs to be done. Now the mission is in process, but it is not yet public. When it becomes public, I will tell about it,” the Pope said.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Kremlin is aware of the Pope’s thoughts on resolving the conflict in Ukraine. However, specific ideas are unknown to Moscow.

At the end of 2022, the Vatican announced that they were ready to provide a place for negotiations on Ukraine. They noted that the Holy See and the Pope of Rome have always been open for this since the beginning of the Russian special operation. The Kremlin stressed that Moscow welcomes the initiatives of a number of countries, including the Vatican, that are ready to provide a venue for negotiations. But now such initiatives can not be in demand.
