The details of high-level negotiations in Istanbul on a food deal are still being worked out. So far, it remains unknown who will represent the United Nations. Farhan Haq, Deputy Representative of the UN Secretary General, spoke about this at a briefing.

According to him, he has nothing to report on Moscow’s response to the UN Secretary General’s letter on the “grain deal”. Hack’s statement on Monday, May 8, leads TASS.

High-level talks on a food deal are due to take place in Istanbul this week. The UN Secretary General is now in Europe. On May 8, he held a series of meetings with representatives of the Spanish authorities.

Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the UN signed a “grain deal” in the summer of 2022. The agreements provide for the export of Ukrainian food and fertilizers from three Black Sea ports, as well as unblocking the export of agricultural products and fertilizers from the Russian Federation.

In November last year, the agreement was extended for 120 days, and in March of this year – for another 60 days, until May 18. Moscow has repeatedly stated that the terms of the “grain deal” have not been fulfilled in the part that concerns the Russian agricultural sector. In April, the UN Secretary General sent a letter to the Russian leader on the food initiative. In May RF pointed out by the UN on the lack of progress in the export of agricultural products.
