Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez said that work at the Akkuyu nuclear power plant (NPP) will continue at an accelerated pace, the project schedule is mandatory, Yeni Şafak newspaper reported .

Earlier, the Turkish company IC Ictas, with which Russia had previously terminated the contract for the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, received the contract again , and the opening ceremony of the facility was scheduled for 2023.

According to the head of the Turkish Ministry of Energy regarding the nuclear power plant “Akkuyu” has been achieved. He added that his office and especially President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have made intensive efforts to bring the parties closer and overcome problems.

“After a while, work will continue at an accelerated pace. The project schedule is binding on us. We must put the first unit into operation in 2023,” the minister said.

He added that work on the construction of a pipeline delivering Black Sea gas to land was largely completed. According to Donmez, the main pipeline will be completed by the end of this month. The goal is to complete all three lines by the end of the year.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a telephone conversation confirmed their determination to act according to the work plan at the Akkuyu nuclear power plant.
