Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russian fighters and commanders during a special military operation (SVO) are fighting direct followers of Nazism. About it says in a telegram published on May 17 on the Kremlin website in honor of the Day of Salvation and Liberation.

“Both we and future generations must sacredly keep the historical truth about the Second World War, understand what devastating consequences any connivance with nationalism, anti-Semitism, xenophobia leads to,” the message says.

According to Putin, this date has a special place in the Jewish calendar. The Day of Salvation and Liberation preserves the memory of the exploits of the Red Army and the military allied countries that saved the Jewish and other peoples from Nazism. The head of state is confident that the celebration of this day will strengthen the traditions of Russian Jews and will have a positive impact on educating young people in the spirit of love for their country.

The President expressed his gratitude to veterans, front-line soldiers and home front workers. He wished them health and well-being.

The Day of Salvation and Liberation has been celebrated since 2013 to commemorate the victory over Nazi Germany in World War II and the salvation of the Jewish people from extermination. Commemorative services are held in synagogues on this day.
