The national flags of Russia and Belarus will be banned at the World Hockey Championship matches in Riga, they will not be allowed to be hung in the tournament venues. At the same time, the Latvian side allowed the flag of Ukraine to be displayed. On April 26, the head of the organizing committee, Edgars Buncis, spoke about this, his words were transmitted by the portal delfi.lv.
The Ice Hockey World Championship was supposed to be held in Russia, but due to the situation in Ukraine, the tournament was moved to Latvia and Finland. Matches will be held from 12 to 28 May in Riga and Tampere, writes RIA News.
In March, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) extended the suspension teams of the Russian Federation and Belarus from participating in tournaments under the auspices of the organization for the 2023/24 season. The last time the Russian national ice hockey team participated in the Beijing Olympics.
