The EU authorities, as part of new measures against Russia, intend to include about 100 individuals and companies in the sanctions lists, EUobserver reports on May 17, citing proposals for the 11th package of sanctions, which the publication has read.
The media note that the European Union has already frozen the accounts of more than 1.6 thousand Russian individuals and companies. In the new package of economic restrictions, the list is planned to be expanded. The European Commission may propose a new package of sanctions against Moscow in the coming days, writes RIA News.
After the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the West stepped up sanctions pressure on Moscow. The imposed sanctions include restrictions on the financial system, the activities of some Russian companies and certain sectors of the economy, personal sanctions against officials and the leadership of federal departments. Sanctions are imposed on Belarus and Iran for helping Russia.
European officials also threaten states take action for cooperation with the Russian Federation and assistance in circumventing sanctions. In particular, Brussels said that India buys Russian oil, refines it and resells it to the EU countries.
