German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke at the ceremony of presenting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with the Charlemagne Prize. It took place in Aachen (Germany).

“Our joint history will continue,” said the German politician. He said that Ukraine is part of “our European family.”

“On its way to the EU, Ukraine has our full support,” Scholz added. His words leads Sunday, May 14, TASS.

Zelensky flew to Germany from Italy on Sunday night. In Berlin, the Ukrainian leader held talks with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, as well as with Scholz.

After negotiations with Zelensky, the German Chancellor stressed that since the beginning of the conflict, Berlin gave support to Kyiv in the amount of €17 billion. The Chancellor said that Germany would continue to support Ukraine. Berlin will not slacken its efforts in this direction, Scholz noted.

The Charlemagne International Prize is a prestigious European award for contribution to the unification of Europe. It has been awarded annually since 1950 by the German city of Aachen to persons who have made a great contribution to the realization of the ideals under which the prize was established.
