Russian athlete Anastasia Potapova on Thursday, May 11, defeated the representative of Italy Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the second round match of the WTA 1000 tennis tournament in Rome. The prize fund of the competition exceeds €3.5 million.
The meeting ended with the score 6:4, 6:4 in favor of the Russian. The opponents spent 1 hour and 34 minutes on the court, writes Interfax.
In the third round, Potapova will face compatriot Veronika Kudermetova. She is the 12th racket of the world. Athletes met on the court at the end of April as part of the match of the second round of the tennis tournament in Madrid. Then Potapova lost to Kudermetova with a score of 6:7 (3:7), 7:5, 3:6.
22-year-old Potapova is on the 25th line of the world ranking. The athlete is the winner of five WTA tournaments (two of them in singles), the former first racket of the world in the ITF ranking among juniors.
Kudermetova is 26 years old. It is ranked 13th in the world rankings. The tennis player is the winner of seven WTA tournaments (one of them in singles) and the owner of the Billie Jean King Cup.
