French President Emmanuel Macron presented a doctrine to strengthen the industrial and economic sovereignty of Europe. According to him, it depends on control over supply chains, energy and innovation, the Financial Times writes on May 12.
“We need more factories and less dependence. Our motto should be “Made in Europe.” We have no choice, because the strength of our democracies depends on our sovereignty,” – quotes Macron RIA Novosti.
The French leader added that the fight for re-industrialization must be carried out on a European scale. The coronavirus pandemic and the situation in Ukraine showed that Europe is dependent, he stressed.
Macron believes that Europe should become a leader in the field of clean technologies and artificial intelligence (AI). In addition, the European authorities should revive the industry, invest in “green technologies”.
The French President is confident that Brussels needs to protect European interests and strategic assets. The trade agenda should also be made “ambitious,” he added. According to Macron, sovereignty for Europe means the ability to rely only on oneself and not wait for outside support.
Macron previously pointed out on addiction Europe from USA. The President believes that it is time to reduce dependence, so as not to be drawn into the conflict over Taiwan.
