President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv does not need intermediaries for negotiations with Russia. He made such a statement on May 13 after meeting with dad Roman Francis in the Vatican.
Answering a question from journalists about the possible mediation of the Vatican in resolving the conflict in Ukraine, the Ukrainian leader said that he respects the Pope, but Kyiv does not need mediators for negotiations. Writes about it RIA News.
According to Zelensky, it is necessary “to develop an action plan for a just peace in Ukraine.” He also added that he had “nothing to talk about” with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Pope Francis said earlier that the Vatican is conducting some kind of mediation mission in Ukraine. He explained that “while it is not public”, and details about it will be possible only later. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation noted that the Kremlin does not yet have information about this mission.
On May 10, the Secretary of State of the Vatican emphasized that although the Russian and Ukrainian sides stated that they did not know about the peace mission of the Vatican, however already made contacts on this occasion. News regarding the mission is confidential, he said.
