Odesa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov, who was arrested on May 4, was bailed out in the amount of 13.42 million hryvnias (about $380,000). This was announced by the press secretary of the Ukrainian specialized anti-corruption prosecutor’s office Olga Postolyuk.
The pledge was made by Dmitry Tantsyura, a deputy from the “Trust deeds” faction in the Odessa City Council. The politician said that he transferred “his personal, declared funds, from which taxes were paid.” About this on Friday, May 5, writes RIA News.
Ukrainian media report that Trukhanov left the pre-trial detention center. His lawyer filed an appeal against the measure of restraint.
The day before the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine arrested Trukhanov for two months due to the waste of budgetary funds in the amount of more than 92 million hryvnia ($2.4 million). The mayor of Odessa and a number of other persons are accused of embezzlement of budget money, which became possible during the implementation of the scheme for acquiring one of the premises of the former Krayan plant into communal ownership. In this case, the purchase occurred at twice the inflated cost.
