Diplomatic relations between Moldova and the Russian Federation are very “problematic”. This statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Nicu Popescu, on TV8.

“At the moment, it can be stated that for more than 30 years Russia has applied a hostile policy towards Moldova,” the minister said. His words on Thursday, May 11, cite RIA News.

He claims that Moscow allegedly supported separatism and also launched and fueled “toxic disinformation campaigns.” “Things have gotten even worse in the last year and a half,” Popescu added.

At the same time, the head of the Moldavian Foreign Ministry noted that there was no talk of breaking diplomatic relations. According to him, they should be supported “not only between friendly countries.”

“We are in a constant exchange of sincere opinions, sometimes tough ones,” Popescu said. He explained that Chisinau expresses its position, and Moscow expresses its own.

Earlier, the Kremlin said that the current leadership of Moldova seeks to drift towards Russophobia. These processes “do not correlate with the mood in society,” they say.
