Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he would leave the presidency if he loses in the elections scheduled for May 14.

“We came to power in Turkey in a democratic way. We will consider any result that will be in the elections as legitimate,” – leads words of the Turkish leader TASS on May 12.

According to him, he will do everything “necessary for democracy” if the Turkish people vote not for him, but for the opposition candidate. At the same time, Erdogan expressed confidence that the people of Turkey will support him and his party in the upcoming elections.

Presidential elections in Turkey will be held on May 14. The current head of state, Erdogan, and the leader of the opposition are considered the main contenders for the presidency. To win in the first round, candidates need to get 50% of the votes plus one vote. If this does not happen, the second round will be held, it may take place on May 28.
