Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed hope that the “grain deal” will be extended after May 18. He stated this on the air of the TRT Turk TV channel.

“We used the favorable atmosphere that was created in relations with the leaders of Ukraine and Russia, both in the exchange of prisoners and in the organization of a grain corridor. We continue to work in this direction, we look forward to extending the deal,” quotes head of Turkey TASS on May 1.

Representatives of the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Turkey will have to discuss the extension of the “grain deal” in the coming days. The talks will take place at the level of deputy ministers. This was announced on April 30 by the head of the Turkish Ministry of Defense.

Until then, April 29, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federationthat there are no concrete results that would indicate the fulfillment of Russia’s requirements on the “grain deal”. Also in the Kremlin stressedthat while the circumstances are not in favor of this agreement. According to the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, the Black Sea Grain Initiative has not yet been implemented.

In July 2022, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN signed a “grain deal”, which involves the export of Ukrainian food and fertilizers from three Black Sea ports, as well as unblocking the export of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers. In March 2023, the agreement was renewed once again.
