Construction of the Akkuyu NPP

The state corporation Rosatom is building the turbine halls of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant (NPP) in Turkey ahead of schedule. This was announced on Thursday, April 27, by Anastasia Zoteeva, General Director of Akkuyu Nuclear Joint-Stock Company.
It is planned that three of the four machine rooms of the nuclear power plant will be ready this year, Zoteeva said on the air of the TV channel “Russia 24”. “Well, next [году] Let’s finish the fourth one,” she added.
On April 27, the ceremony of delivering nuclear fuel for the first block of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant is to take place in Mersin, transmits TASS. It is planned that Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate in it via video link.
Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan also intends to attend the event via video link. His trip to the nuclear power plant was canceled due to poor health. After the delivery of the fuel, Akkuyu will receive the status of a nuclear power plant.
Akkuyu is the first nuclear power plant under construction in Turkey. The project is being implemented within the framework of an intergovernmental cooperation agreement concluded between the Russian Federation and Turkey in 2010. Construction is carried out according to the Russian project. It started in 2018. The Kremlin emphasized that “Akkuyu” is very important project for relations between Russia and Turkey.
